With an increasing number of people choosing to try vaporizers as a method of ingesting cannabis, it is vitally important that those newcomers who have no experience with these products are provided with reliable information to help them choose the best vape to buy.

With most vapes available on the market today, the temperature of cannabis vaporization invariably occurs at around 200°C or 392°F. While some products allow you to control the temperature of your vaporizer, others are controlled automatically and will therefore not respond to manual temperature adjustment.
Vaporizers that allow the user to control the temperature tend to be presented as a range of pre-set temperatures or as a digital display. With either option, the user will be allowed to control the precise temperature of their vaporizer, which not only allows for consistency, but also regulates the release of specific cannabinoids in the cannabis plant. This is why vaporizers with adjustable temperature controls are exceedingly popular with medical cannabis users.
Vaporizers that automatically control temperature will adjust their heat based on the users’ regularity and rapidity of inhalation. While users may initially struggle to achieve a consistent temperature, frequent use will eventually lead to a more uniformity as the user maintains their speed of inhalation.

One of the most important decisions you will make when deciding which vaporizer to buy is the portability of the product. Most vaporizers on the market will be portable, allowing you to vape on the go, or Desktop, meaning that the product will be stationary.
Your choice of vaporizer portability will depend entirely on where and how often you wish to vape. Portable vaporizers are perfect for those who wish to be able to use their vaporizer away from home. However, these products crucially do not offer the same level of functionality as a desktop vape.
With a requirement to be lightweight and easily carried, portable vapes have smaller chambers, meaning more frequent refills as well as a far shorter lifespan compared to their desktop equivalents.
Desktop vaporizers are designed specifically for home use and will usually plug into any wall outlet. They are longer lasting than a portable equivalent as they are not battery powered.
While desktop vaporizers were once fairly bulky pieces of equipment, most are now fairly lightweight and can be moved around the home with relative ease.

There are generally two types of heating methods in a vaporizer; convection and thermal conduction.
The convection heating method, which is the most commonly used in vaporizers, involves indirect heating using a ceramic element or an aluminium element. Producers of convection heated vaporizers suggest that this method offers a more effective temperature control and a cleaner burn.
The thermal conduction method involves heating the contents of the vaporizer directly when they are set onto a metal dish. While this method guarantees a consistent vaporization of most of the contents, it can be inefficient as it can often burn and consequentially waste some of the material inside.

Depending on the type of vaporizer you purchase, there will be a number of different methods in which you can inhale the vapour.
A forced air method, or balloon delivery method is common when using a desktop vaporizer. In this method, an internal fan will blow vapour into a vape balloon. When this is filled, you place the balloon to your mouth and inhale the vapour inside.
A direct draw method or whip method consists of a vape wand, where the material is placed, a mouthpiece and vape tubing which connects the two parts. This method is also frequently used with desktop vaporizers.
Combination desktop vaporizers allow you to ingest the material using either method. These vaporizers are often recommended for beginners who do not know which delivery method they will prefer.
Portable vaporizers do not have as much flexibility on delivery methods and will often simply consist of a fixed draw tube or mouthpiece.

There are a number of materials that you can use in your vaporizer. Dry herbs (including cannabis) and tobacco are the most commonly used materials for both desktop and portable vapes. In fact, the majority of vaporizers are designed specifically to vape these kind of materials.

The increasing popularity of vaporizers is partly due to its reputation as a healthier method of ingesting certain materials when compared to smoking.
Vaporization eliminates all of the negative by-products of combustion. Instead of creating potentially harmful toxins through combustion, vaporizers takes a material to its ‘boiling point’ where you receive all the same effects from the material, without burning anything at all.

While most desktop vaporizers are plugged straight into the wall, a portable vaporizers power source can vary. Some portable vapes run on butane, but the vast majority will run on a form of rechargeable battery.
Some batteries can be removed from a vaporizer and re-charged from a wall adaptor. However, there will be some vaporizers with internal batteries. If this is the case, ensure that your vape has a warranty that covers the replacement of any battery inside.
While desktop vaporizers avoid the frustrations of re-charging and battery changing, there are certain power elements that you will need to take into consideration if you want to vape at home. Some desktop vapes offer pass-through charging, which means that they can still be used, even when connected to a wall adaptor. However, there are some that require complete immobility during the charging process.
